Our aim has always been to breed koi of the highest quality but our emphasis has to be on the health and welfare of our fish first and foremeost.  We have developed a way of working based on our experiences over the years. We do not buy fish in to grow on and sell and we do not send our fish off site to be grown on elsewhere. Recent and increasing concerns over disease issues in the koi industry have led us to conclude that sending fish off site to be grown on would introduce an unnecessary element of risk of bringing disease onto our farm once the fish returned to us. We now have a policy that once a fish leaves our site, it can never return. This means that the risk of bringing disease onto our site is once again kept to an absolute minimum.  Each new brood fish that we bring on to our site is quarantined off-site before it reaches us and once they are on the farm they are housed separately to our other koi in our dedicated Quarantine House.  We do not take fish to shows as we do not want to risk bringing any contaminated fish back onto our site.  These measures make life a little difficult and also mean that we might miss opportunities to promote our fish but the priority above all else is the health of our fish and the biosecurity of our site.  It is this approach that continues to win us many new customers every year.

We are regulated by the Fish Health Inspectorate at Cefas, who are part of Defra,  in Weymouth and they carry out tests biannually on our fish for diseases such as SVC.  Our last  inspection was in September 2007.  If you would like to find out more about the tests available for KHV you can find Cefas Laboratories Ltd  at www.cefastechnology.co.uk.
