The man from the ministry!
Thursday, 11 October 2007 13:30

Last week we had our annual visit from Cefas. What happens on one of these visits is that they have a good look round and take carbon copies of all the records that we have to keep throughout the year - fish movements, mortalities and medications.

Every second year, they take a sample of 30 koi so that they can carry out various tests, mainly for SVC. Last time they added KHV to this list which is good, but it seems that they have decided not to routinely test for it in the future which I think is a great shame.

The sampling is done on site and our "man from the ministery" carries his own sampling kit with him. All he needs is a table and 30 koi. Fortunately he can take samples from quite small koi but unfortunately they have to be killed. :(

Here he is all set up and busy removing the relevant organs.

All set up!
