We've been carrying out first selection on the fry from the Goshiki spawning this weekend. The fry are around 1 inch in length now and it's just about possible to see the pattern developing on them. So far we've sorted through around 30,000 of them and we haven't finished yet! I know what we'll be doing tomorrow.... Mark selecting
The ones that didn't make the grade
We generally keep about 10% at first selection although that percentage is going to be a bit lower this year. The survival rate of this spawning is really good. The more fry that survive to first selection the greater choice we have and the better the quality. |
