We harvested our tosai Showa in preparation for transferring the best ones to our warm water growing on facility which is nearing completion. Bred at the beginning of June they are now an average 4-5 inches in length, the parents are Matsunoske female and Fujio Oomo males. At first selection we harvested around 30,000 fry but kept very few as there were an awful lot of poor quality Kohaku amongst them. At second selection we kept just 800 which we returned to the mud ponds and now that we have completed another selection, we are keeping just 400. I have attached a couple of photos of just a small group in a bowl and also an individual shot of my personal favourite! These tategoi still have a lot of development ahead of them, but I think they are off to a good start.
Since harvesting the Showa we have also done the Sanke and Kohaku and have still got the Ochiba and Shusui to go. I will let you know how we got on with them. Lisa |
