Sanke Tosai Harvest
Tuesday, 12 December 2006 18:06

We harvested our Sanke tosai, from our Takegawa female, at the end of last week. We are really pleased with the overall standard of these Sanke. The skin quality is excellent and the sumi and hi look great.

Sanke Tosai

When selecting we are looking for a white nose and tail with no hi in the fins if possible. At this age, the sumi is always quite heavy on Sanke but this changes quite a lot as the fish grows, so we don't worry about it. A Sanke needs to have a good balanced Kohaku pattern, so this is also one of the things we look for.

These fish are from one of our late spawnings which we did at the end of June and are around four inches long at the moment. These particular koi will now be transferred to our new tosai house in the next few days and grown on until the Spring, when we will decide which ones to sell and which ones to put out into the mud ponds over the summer.
